Package Quantity

Each pouch contains 200g

High in Protein

Chlorella consists of 50–60% protein. What's more, it's a complete protein source, meaning it contains all 9 essential amino acids (See below).

Amino Acid complete:

The problem? The human body cannot synthesize 9 of the 20 amino acids from other compounds in the body, therefore the body must look externally to obtain the 9 essential amino acids. Furthermore most plant foods are deficient in one or more essential amino acids, making this a difficult task (especially if you’re vegan).

You’re Answer, Chlorella! Being a complete plant protein means it contains all 9 essential amino acids. For other great protein sources see Moringa & Wheatgrass as well.

Detox of Note

Unknown to most, the current environmental contamination has had an impact on the farming of our food. How you might ask, well specifically in an increase in the consumption of toxic heavy metals.

That being said some elements are essential in small amounts, such as iron and copper, but these and other heavy metals like cadmium, lead, arsenic, mercury are toxic in even small amounts.

This problem is exacerbated as a result of industrial exposure, air or water pollution, medicines, improperly coated food containers, or the ingestion of lead-based paints.

Chlorella to the rescue. Chlorella has the wonderful effect of both mobilizing and binding to toxins. The cell wall of Chlorella is a mucopolysaccharide ion exchange resin that forms both ionic and double bonds with toxic heavy metals, chemicals, and pesticides and escorts them out of the body.

Rich in Chlorophyll

Chlorella contains several compounds that are considered antioxidants, including chlorophyll, vitamin C, beta-carotene, lycopene and lutein.

In one of the animals and lab studies, Chlorella actually interfered with the way genes age. #Mindblowing

Furthermore chlorophyll helps with blood detoxification, wound healing, gut health, energy & immune system support. In fact in one study Chlorella supplements increased the antioxidant levels in chronic cigarette smokers, a population at a higher risk of oxidative damage.

Blood Pressure Management

Chlorella supplements could help promote heart and kidney health, which is essential for normal blood pressure.

In one study, people with mildly high blood pressure took four grams of Chlorella daily for 12 weeks. By the end, these people had lower blood pressure readings than participants who took the placebo.

Blood Sugar Management

Some research shows that Chlorella may help lower blood sugar levels. A study found that taking Chlorella for 12 weeks lowered fasting blood sugar levels in both healthy individuals and those at high risk of lifestyle-related diseases.

Other studies have shown that supplementing with Chlorella improves blood sugar control and increases insulin sensitivity in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

High in Vitamin B12

Chlorella is high in Vitamin B12 and is thus a great addition to your diet to fight fatigue and tiredness. Vitamin B12 helps to prevent a type of anemia called megaloblastic anemia that makes people tired and weak.

Enhances Aerobic Endurance

Researchers gave a group of young adult’s six grams of Chlorella or a placebo daily for four weeks. At the end of the study, the Chlorella group showed a significantly improved ability to saturate their lungs with oxygen, which is a measure of endurance. The placebo group did not experience any changes in endurance.

This effect may be due to Chlorella's branched-chain amino acid content.

Branched-chain amino acids are a collection of three amino acids that have been found to improve aerobic performance in various studies.

What is the difference between Chlorella and Spirulina?

Both forms of algae contain high amounts of nutrients. However, Chlorella is higher in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin A, riboflavin, iron, magnesium, and zinc. Though Spirulina may be higher in protein, some studies suggest that the protein content in Chlorella is comparable.

The high levels of polyunsaturated fats, antioxidants, and other vitamins present in Chlorella give it a slight nutritional advantage over spirulina.

Additionally, much of the research on the health benefits of Spirulina has been limited to animal studies. The research on Chlorella is more extensive. It includes animal and human studies, making the information on Chlorella more reliable and applicable to people.

Why is the breaking down of the cell wall important?

In the 1970s, Chlorella was a huge hit in Japan, but the boom ended because of photosensitivity incidents caused by Chlorella.

The photosensitivity incidents refer to occurrences of blisters caused by exposure to direct sunlight after ingestion of Chlorella. Because Chlorella has a tough cell wall indigestible by stomach acids, chlorophyll remained intact in the body. Because the intact chlorophyll wasn’t broken down it may be that the body will react with sunlight causing blisters.

Blisters do not develop in everyone, and the occurrence is affected by the person's physical constitution. Nonetheless, it was certain that the symptoms developed after ingestion of Chlorella, and the boom died after a while.

NOTE: THIS IS NOTE THE CASE ANYMORE! #LOL

Later on, the technology of complete cell wall pulverization was developed, and Chlorella's anticancer effect was discovered. As a result, Chlorella is again started attracting attention.

What is the ideal dosage of Chlorella?

Chlorella is a very nutrient dense Superfood per tsp (5g) serving. As it is so nutritious as well as has a strong detoxing effect, we recommend beginning with ¼ - ½ a teaspoon a day and gradually building up to a full serving to give your body time to adjust.

Is it safe to consume during pregnancy?

Generally speaking if you are pregnant or trying to conceive, we recommend seeking medical advice before taking Acai or any of our other products.

That being said, you may be interested to know that dioxins (a class of chemicals considered highly toxic and able to cause reproductive and developmental problems, damage the immune system, interfere with hormones and cause cancer) are reduced in breast milk of women taking a Chlorella supplement. Chlorella supplementation not only reduces dioxin levels in breast milk, but may also have beneficial effects on the immune development of nursing infants by increasing IgA (immunoglobulin A) levels in breast milk.

It has been further demonstrated that Chlorella reduces anaemia and pregnancy related hypertension and beneficial antioxidant carotenoids such as zeaxanthin, beta-carotene (pro-vitamin A) and lutein (all considered potent antioxidants) are found in higher concentrations in the breast milk of nursing mothers taking Chlorella.

Animal research directly related to mercury transfer to infants in utero indicates that Chlorella actually suppresses mercury transfer to the fetus, in addition to effective suppressing of mercury accumulation in the brain of the mothers.

Detoxing Mercury Levels

My doctor actually recommended adding Chlorella to my morning smoothie because I eat a lot fish and a strong detoxer for the mercury content in my body is important. I have been adding Chlorella to my smoothie every morning now and feel amazing!
